Matlock Bath set in the Derwent valley with its limestone cliffs and steep wooded slopes must be one of the prettiest villages in England and with its thermal waters has been appreciated as such since the 17th Century. The hotel dates back in parts to 1698 and was initially run by renowned local vintner Job Hodgkinson. The current owner, Malcolm Archer and Nigel Shelley manage the hotel as a comfortable country home and, using fresh local produce whenever possible, have built up a marvellous reputation on the catering side.
There are six double rooms and one single (all en suite) with prices varying from as little as £60 depending on size of the room required and the season. Bargain breaks are available. The hotel is very conveniently situated for visiting local stately homes as Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Kedleston and ramblers can walk from the hotel across the heart of Derbyshire.
