THE GRAPES HOTEL is a 19th century Coaching Inn although an ancient cellar dates back to the 13th century. A grade II listed building the Grapes is set in the picturesque village of Maentwrog which nestles in the beautiful vale of Ffestiniog wooded and mountainous - the heart of the Snowdonia National Park.
Chronicled in George Borrow's famous book "Wild Wales" as the Marntwrog Inn where he entered "A magnificent parlour and partook of Brandy and Water". Possibly this was the same parlour regularly visited by the great Welsh Stateman and Prime Minister LLoyd George and where Lilley Langtry took tea - separately we believe!
Of course the Grapes has ghosts. One, a little old lady in Victorian clothes, often appears below stairs just long enough to frighten the kitchen staff rigid! Then disappears just as rapidly, another plays a piano on the residents landing, They've never figured out how they get the piano up there!
